Vt4 million was never spent
The Office of the Prime Minister has stated that the Vt4 million much talked about in the social media that was approved for the Commonwealth Registration, was never used.
A meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office last Friday heard that the amount was still held by the Department of Finance.
Concerns were raised in social media about the Vt4 million that the Youth and Sports Ministry had allegedly misused it.
But the Prime Minister’s Office said through a statement that the Council of Ministers did approve Vt4 million as a stand-by fund in case the Commonwealth Games committee asks Vanuatu to pay a registration fee.
Last Friday’s meeting involved Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, Youth Minister Seule Simeon, Department of Finance and VASANOC.
The Prime minister asked the sports ministry, department of finance, VASANOC and all sports federations to work together to develop sports.
Mr Salwai also reminded that it is now three months since the Mini Games in Port Vila but the Government is yet to receive a report on how public funds amounting to Vt900 million was spent.
He called on all stakeholders to work together to draw up a plan on how the Korman Sports Complex will be used in the future.
