imor-Leste-flagged Boat Nabbed for Illegal Fishing

Fishery and Marine Monitoring Unit Kupang chapter in East Nusa Tenggara has nabbed a Chinese boat flying the flag of and possessing documents from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL). The boat entered the exclusive economic zone (ZEE) on the marine border between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

The boat that was fishing illegally has been nabbed and escorted by authorities to Tenau port in Kupang for an investigation.

Authorities also arrested 21 crewmen comprising six Indonesians, three Vietnamese, three Myanmar people and nine Chinese.

Kupang Fishery and Marine Monitoring Unit head Mubarak said that his office has seized fish and fish catching device.

The boat remains under the custody of authorities at Tenau port in Kupang for further investigation.
